Seit ich die Rejetnicks das erste mal erlebt habe, weiß ich, dass ich mit ihnen eine Party schmeißen will. Seit April 2020 existiert die Idee einer “Party danach” (wenn große Runden wieder möglich sind). Letzter Baustein ist ein entspannter Geburtstag und die Überlegung: Wenn nicht jetzt, wann dann?!

Ever since I met the Rejetnicks, I wanted to party with them. Furthermore, I established a guest list back in April 2020, aiming to celebrate the end of the pandemic altogether. Eventually, a relaxed birthday served as final kick-off and here we go!

Location-Suche, Termin-Tetris und plötzlich ist da eine Eigendynamik, die alle(s) mitreißt. Aufgrund dieser Dynamik entsteht mehr als eine Party: Familientreffen, eine glutenfreie Bäckerei, ein Klamotten-Vintage-Shop, Hotel-Gruppen-Rabatt und – dank Hector – ein Party-Camp.

I have learned a lot about different locations and played calendar-tetris with all parties involved. At a certain point, the organization starts to run at it’s own speed and all falls into place: A patchwork family gathering, a gluten-free bakery, vintage-shopping for free and drinks with friends. All accompanied by the most comfortable party camp, thanks to precious Hector.

Es ist total wunderbar, und dabei hat die Party noch gar nicht begonnen.

I am overwhelmed even before the party begins (grateful for that, as it minimizes my nervousness).

Diesen Abend begegnen sich 65 Menschen aller Altersgruppen, aus allen Ecken der Stadt und des Landes.

As the evening enfolds, 65 people of all ages and from all corners get together for this wonderful event.

Zum Glück konnte ich sympathische Profis für mein Vorhaben gewinnen, und so werkelt hinter den Kulissen Margit an kulinarischen Köstlichkeiten und die Technik an Sound und Licht. In der Halbwelt dazwischen spielen sich Szenen ab, die nichts mit der berüchtigten Row Zero zu tun haben, und doch zensiert werden mussten. Musiker sind halt heiß.

Thanks to the most charismatic and experienced partners, the buffet as well as sound and light are well prepared. It is only in between the visible and the invisible elements that culminates in a glimpse of a censored picture… Though nothing close to “row zero scandals”, it still proves musicians being as hot as their image.

Ich hatte mir eine tolle Begrüßung überlegt, doch daraus wird nichts. Anlässlich meines ersten Bühnen-Auftritts bin ich so nervös, dass ich hilflos einzelne Worte ins Mikro stammle, dann aufgebe und an dieser Stelle auf das Zitat von Marilyn Monroe verweise: Ich spiele die Ukulele und ich singe auch.

Suddenly, I find myself on stage. While wanting to point out the magic of being here, alive and full of love, I only manage the most clumsy welcome, my brain cells turning off one by one. The most natural handshake with stage fright, I would say… Still, all you need is love. And applause. And with the encore, I play and sing like a pro, getting most of the tones straight.

Profis wissen, wie sich das aushalten lässt – zum Glück ist die Bar mit drei Servicekräften voll besetzt und kümmert sich rührend um meine Gäste.

My guests know how to cope with all kinds of performance. Thanks to the fully staffed bar, nobody needs to suffer or starve.

Kaum legt die Band los, ist es draußen leergefegt. Die Rejetnicks sind zuverlässig der Hammer, gute Stimmung ab dem ersten Ton.

As soon as the band (the real band!) gets going, everybody is in. I smile, as this has been my plan all along: let the Rejetnicks be the initial spark to best party atmosphere.

Der Partysound wabert verlockend durch die Sommernacht, aber insgesamt haben sich nur wenige Fremdgäste reingeschlichen. Schön, dass es am Stadtrand ohne Türsteher funktioniert.

The sound floats through the mild summer breeze, tempting a few foreigners. After all, I do not count more than 3 un-invited guests, mostly peaceful. Meaning that my backup-heros (muscle-man, policeman, doctor, lawyer…) can spend the evening without work 😊

Die Lounge erweist sich als perfekt: Genug Platz zum Tanzen, Sitzplätze zum Essen und eine große Bar, an der sich alle begegnen.

The location turns out just perfect: spacious for dancers, couches for the lazy and a huge bar for encounters.

Am schönsten ist, dass sich Freundesgruppen treffen, die seit Anfang 2020 nicht mehr zusammen gefunden haben. Dazu neue Begegnungen und ein ganz großartiger Abend in bester Stimmung.

Best of all is the big-together after 3,5 years of limited events.

Aus der fixen Idee wurde ein gemeinsames Erlebnis – wir sollten noch viel öfter das Leben feiern. Ich freu mich jetzt schon auf alle weiteren Zusammenkünfte, die aus dem heutigen Abend entstehen!

The faint idea of a big party has rewarded us with a wonderful evening. A big toast to life!
