Jedes Ziel wird zur Reise: Zuerst ist ein Ort eine Vorstellung. Dann wird es ein Ankommen, ein Eindruck, ein Nachhall. Ich bin begeistert davon, dass ich meinen Hawaii-Trip in die Tat umgesetzt habe – wie sonst lässt sich herausfinden, welche Träume sich bewähren und welche Wunder einen erwarten.

Each destination starts with an image before it turns into something real. I congratulate myself for the trip to Hawaii, exploring the world at the other side of the planet. Shattered dreams or unexpected miracles, staying at home will hardly get you anywhere.

Es war paradiesisch, wenn auch nicht überall. Lauter Jubel, als ich pazifische Wellen gesurft bin – gern hätte ich mehr davon gehabt. Hohe Berge, unzählige Strände, tolle Begegnungen. Es war anstrengend, und ich habe mich erholt. Es war von langer Hand geplant und spontan entwickelt. Was für ein Glück, wieder reisen zu können!

Hawaii is paradise, at least in some spots. I still hear myself cheer when riding pacific waves at Waikiki, yearning for more of it. Besides, I have been on highest mountains, umpteen beaches and had inspiring encounters. The trip was exhausting (at least, sometimes) and yet I came back all relaxed. Planned last autumn and then worked on it spontaneously. What a joy to be back into travelling!

Auch wenn ich grundsätzlich viel zu wenig Urlaub mache (blöd, wenn man seinen Job mag)… Hauptsache los und raus. Once in a lifetime nach Hawaii, auf abendfüllenden See-Blick ins Chiemgau, a bissl was geht immer. Natürlich auch dank Hector: Er nimmt mir übel, dass er nicht mit nach Hawaii durfte. Kaum sind alle Instandhaltungen bezahlt, geht die Dachluke kaputt. Aber mit jedem Camping-Wochenende wird es besser und es gibt (fast) kein Hotel, das so großartig ist wie mein Campingbus.

Running gag of my life is that I only realize 50% of my planned holidays (bad luck when you like your job). Still, I need to get going every now and then, no matter if it is a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Hawaii or a night with a view. Since nine years, there is no season without Hector. He is a bit insulted because of Hawaii, showing it with a broken roof hatch and enormous maintenance fee… However, each overnight trip proves that there is hardly a hotel room keeping up with my precious camper van.

Seit Hawaii bin ich entzückt von Schildkröten, spiele Ukulele-Konzerte vor wachsender Menge und gebe das Wellenreiten noch lange nicht auf. 

Hawaii has made me a fan of giant turtles, has strengthened my ukulele skills and has left me desperate for more and better surfing experience. Guess 2024 will not be too late for ambitious waves, right?!

Wer jemals nach Hawaii will, bereitet manches Detail vielleicht besser vor. Darauf einlassen darf sich jeder Reisende selbst, das Unerwartete ist ja oft am schönsten 😊

No matter how well prepared others may be for a journey on Hawaii’s islands – keeping engaged is the whole trick, always up to welcome the unexpected.
