Jahrelang war ich stolz auf meine getönten Fenster in Hector. Nun habe ich sie geputzt und siehe da: helles Licht scheint herein, die Fenster sind gar nicht so grau. Für ein Mindestmaß an Privatsphäre – und weil Nachbars BMW nur halb so schön ist, wie er meint – habe ich die Gardinenstange repariert für artgerechtes cosy van home.

All along, I used to be proud of Hector’s tinted windows. Now I have cleaned everything, and the bright light shining in tells me that they are not as gray as I have thought. For a modicum of privacy – and because my neighbor’s BMW is only half as nice as he thinks it is – I fixed the curtain rod, rewarding myself with appropriate cozy van home again.

Inzwischen rückt der Aufbruch näher und aus dem Füllhorn der Möglichkeiten schälen sich konkrete Ziele heraus: Best of France wird erweitert um ein paar Tage Spanien. Kaum habe ich die geplante Route skizziert, ist sie auch schon veraltet, und dabei ist das Wetter noch gar nicht eingerechnet. Ich werde unterwegs spontan entscheiden, wann ich wohin fahre. Die große Frage ist, ob ich Frankreich gegen den Uhrzeigersinn oder mit dem Uhrzeigersinn umrunde…

In the meantime, departure gets within reach, and concrete destinations are emerging from the cornucopia of possibilities: Best of France will be extended with a few days of Northern Spain. No sooner have I sketched out the planned route than it is already out of date, and that’s not even taking the weather into account. I will decide spontaneously when and where to continue my way, seeking favourite spots and new detections. The big question will be whether I will go around France (roughly 85% of it) counter-clockwise or clockwise …
