Travelhector

Gerade noch war Hector so leer, wie der Winter kalt war. Kein Bett, kein Toilettentank, keine Klamotten… Öd, karg und leer sah es drinnen aus, gelegentlich rollte ein Büschel Wüstengras durch den Flur. Doch jetzt wendet sich das Blatt, und nun darf alles ganz schnell gehen.

Few days ago, Hector has been empty and vast. The missing bed stuff has caused echoes in the hallway, while dust has been the only inhabitant of the closets. Luckily, this is about to change now.

Einige Stunden später ist das Bett gemacht, das Fahrrad eingeladen, die Bücher sind eingeräumt und sogar die Klamotten passen in den Kleiderschrank. Und zwar alle.

Once the bed is made, the bike loaded and the bathroom equipped, Hector turns from a heavy car into a rolling home. The bookshelf is well sorted, the closet full of holiday clothing, and I feel more and more ready to go.

Zusätzlich kommt jede Menge Equipment mit: Von Neoprenanzügen über Sommerhut, Wanderschuhe und Klettersteigset, Sofakissen und Wolldecke, Flossen und Regenstiefel und jede Menge mehr. Und während ich bei schönstem Frühlingswetter Hector belade, türmen sich am Horizont die Wolken auf. Eigentlich sage ich immer, dass mich die Aussicht auf „es könnte regnen“ nicht schreckt – aber die Vorhersage für den Atlantik in Südfrankreich ist dann doch ein Dämpfer.

The sporty equipment mirrors my optimism: surfing stuff, sun-hat, hiking shoes, climbing set, fins – sunny weeks will be appreciated. Still, I am realistic enough for a pair of rubber boots. Guess the combination with the wet suit might be a good base for the predicted weather…

Am besten, ich sehe mir das vor Ort genauer an. Wenn ich den Neoprenanzug mit den Gummistiefeln kombiniere, sollte es eigentlich gut auszuhalten sein… Und überhaupt, jetzt oder nie! Der aktuelle Job läuft aus, die Wohnungs-Bewohner rücken bald an und Hector strahlt so viel Zuversicht aus, dass es eh für alle reicht.

For the first weeks, I will stick to my plan and hope for the best. With the job ending and the flat-takeover on it’s way, I rather get going on time. Whenever I doubt my euphoric plans, all it takes is a look at Hector: Now, fully packed, he looks inviting and cosy.

Im Zweifel für die größere Unsicherheit!

I am looking forward to seeing friends along the way, and that weighs more than any rain forecast possibly could. To hell with the weather app, we will head south-west and won’t stop until we reach the shore!
