Hector starts getting bored on A Illa de Arousa – comprehensive, given the limited range of movement for campervans. They are banned from the nature reserve and may not pass the narrow centre of the island. Yet, I push a sidequest with a stopover in Cambados.

tiny in between
Welcome to Cambados

Cambados is known as the heart of Galicia wine. Hence, it does not take long to discover the first shop with eager vendors and nice assortment of corked bottes. Hector is waiting for my prey, decently parked at the next supermarket. Guess they do not mind my detour before I finish my groceries…

nice (and unexpected)

The historic part is not more than a couple of alleys, yet astoundingly attractive. Tourists circling around on the main street will miss cafés, bars and shops.Overall, they miss the relaxed beauty of this town.

Being too early for most shops, I stroll around and enjoy being here. If it ever happens to get here again, I will shift my focus from Arousa to Cambados.

Cambados could be very suitable for food and drinks

One of the typical corn storages = Hórreo is located at the edge of the city, overlooking the sea. I wonder if it is still in use or rather kept for the sight of it.

most beautiful Hórreo

Eventually, I drop in the cutest café. The lady behind the counter prepares finest flat white café together with baguette and jam (gluten-free tortilla for me, of course). One of the best facets of Northern Spain is their culinary art!

Most restaurants and bars around combine their offers with a wine shop. Once more, I am too shy to take pictures, but the collection of Alberiño bottles is my catch of the day!

I might have become a fan of Alberino wine!

For today, I am willing to continue my way further South. I share Hector’s opinion about our destination as a mission that is about to be completed soon.

Almost out of the historic centre, I melt into the crowd of elderly bus tourists that get chased into the church. Obviously, they only open up for serious crowds, so I take the chance for a sneak view. If not for the weight of the wine bottles, I would have come out with a stack of photos. For today, I am proud of my priorities.
